New budget friendly graphics card developed by Nvidia
Nvidia has attempted to tap the average gamer in India by introducing a brand new GeForce GTX 460 graphics card. This graphics card is a like a step down version of the recently introduced GeForce GTX 465 graphics card. New GeForce GTX 460 is the same Fermi architecture based graphics card supporting DirectX 11 based games and promises better tessellation performance in the budget range.
This graphics card GTX 460 with 768MB version with 192-bit memory interface would be available for Rs. 13,129 (199 dollars in U.S.). While the GTX 460 1GB version with 256-bit memory interface is priced at Rs. 15,049 in India (229 dollars in U.S.).
The new GeForce GTX 460 consists of 40nm Fermi Architecture GF100 GPU and has 336 CUDA cores, compared to 352 CUDA cores in GTX 465 graphics card. Nvidia will offer GTX 460 in two versions with 768MB GDDR5 graphics having 192-bit memory interface and 1GB GDDR5 graphics having 256-bit interface.
One can hook up three monitors with this graphics card with two dual link DVI-I and mini HDMI ports. Both these GTX 460 graphics card versions would be two-way Nvidia SLI-ready, Nvidia 3D Vision Ready, Nvidia 3D Vision Surround ready, PureVideo HD ready, OpenGL 4.0 support and of course, Nvidia PhysX ready. This graphics card is certified for Windows 7.
New 8.25-inch long Nvidia GTX 460 graphics offers two 6-pin power connectors and would require a minimum 450W power supply unit. Add-in card makers including ASL, ASUS, Colorful, ECS, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, Jetway, KFA2, Leadtek, MSI, Palit, Point of View, PNY, Sparkle, Zotac and others will make the respective GTX 460 cards available by July 26.
The elder brother GTX 465 is priced for approximately Rs. 18,000 while the new GTX 460 is priced for Rs. 15,049 approximately. Do note that Rs. 15,049 is NOT add-in manufacturer's price. The difference between both cards in terms of performance and pricing can be expected to be lean.
